Default Any advice on Infant seat for dodge Dakotas???

Hi,

We are a couple based in Switzerland who recently purchased a Dodge Dakota 2003....and we are now expecting our first child. We've been looking at infant seats, but we're finding it very difficult to find the appropriate one since it's a single cab and the back is basically a leather bench.

We are desperately looking for options of infant seats, since selling the Dodge would really be the last option. So any help/advice you have would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

What front seats do you have in your truck?

If you have the center bench seat (the 40/20/40 seat), you can put the infant seat there as long as you turn off your airbag. You'll have to remember to turn it off each ignition cycle and your passenger will be a bit less protected, but don't hit anything and you'll be fine! Unfortunately this will be the most convenient and comfortable option.

The second option is to try to fit it in the rear center and hang over the front, but you'll need to find a SMALL carrier type seat to put an infant in. I may be able to try mine tonight (I have a 2000 Club cab and an Evenflo infant carrier) if you're really interested. It may not fit real well, though, because the cushion is really short (something I discovered with my son's booster seat).

If option 2 doesn't work and you don't have the bench, the other way is to put the child in the front and have the significant other sit in the back. You'll still have to turn the airbag off every time and keep the seat as far rearward as possible, but it may be the only way.

Unfortunately these trucks arn't really build as family haulers unless you have a 4 door!

I know it doesn't help, but I have a 2003 quad cab dakota with two car seats in the back. In the US at least, you have to have the car seats rear facing until the child is 1 year old and 20 lbs. The car seats fit just fine, but you can't have the driver and passenger seats all the way back because they hit the car seats. Once you can turn them around, you can have the seats all the way back. Good luck and congrats!

I would go down to the local police station and ask them. I know they can be our enemies, but they can also be our friends. I've talked to a few people here in Canada who have done so, and the cops have installed the seats for them in the safest way. I say go down and ask them, what could it hurt?
