dodge window regulator
i have a 2001 dodge dakota quad cab and my power window regulator failed
so far i have:
removed the door panel (which was abnormally difficult because unlike a ford the handle panel does no detach with out breaking the plastic brackets... seriously why cant they make it easier to DIY?)
removed the window regulator finding that the problem lied with in the mechinism not just to being off track
disassembled the regulator realizing the metal wire was warped and akwardly (and loosely) wrapped up in the spool. i also found that the spool seems to have been worn down leaving a bare resemblence of the threads and the casing of the spool showed some ware as well.
so heres my hope for a solution:
plan A) completely remove window mechinism. attempt to respool and reattach regulator.... test
plan B) disassemble my rear door regulator and posibly swap out parts if they are the same or similar... test
plan C) buy a new wire and stops, stretch old wire out for percise measuring cut and attach stops.
*************search all ends of the earth to buy a new spool without having to buy the whole thing!
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!
and if that doesnt work ill strap a board inside to physically hold up the window because really the last thing i want to end up doing is paying $100 for a part that i dont need all parts of and over my dead body will i pay the dealership $400 to have it replaced... all this because i cant buy a little plastic spool seperately... no way!
well i will update as to how things turned out and i welcome any suggestions espeically macguyver solutions!
ill check back in the am

Concur with the junkyard option for a whole new regulator assembly. I restrung my cable this pastweekend and can't seem to get it just right. It works, but the cables just don't seem tight enough and I figure it is only a matter of time until it breaks again. I'll mess with it a little longer to try an get it right. But I will keep looking at the junkyards to find a whole assy and be done with it.
One other thing, my cables were chewed up so unable to get an accurate measurement on each of the cables. Do you have that info handy?
