Default Starting Issues

I have a 2000 dakota Quad cab with the 4.7 v-8. When i start it in the morning or when the engine is cold, it starts right up but after the rpms drop a little bit my engine starts idleing rough and the rpms drop to about 300 and then it jumps up to about 1500 by itself. I did a complete tune up thinking it might be my spark plugs. They were bad and needed to be changed but it didn't help. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? I have no check engine light on or any code so i am clueless. It runs fine other then the start up.

I don't have your answer - but I do have teh same problem ('00 CC 4x4 V8).

I start mine up, it starts at a normal high rev but then slowly comes down, starts running rough, than stalls. Yesterday I re-started and it ran fine. Today I gave it gas to keep it going, it took a couple shots before the idle settled to a good range.

I just bought it 2 weeks ago.

Any answers out there???

swing by a auto store and have them do a check eng light test. I had the same problem with my 99 6cyl. I needed to replace the map sensor and abs/speed sensor, now it runs fine...or it did before the t-case went out.

hey i got the same prob on my '99 5.2L. on my truck the rpm's drop, the engine rev's up, then runs fine.i've tried cleaning the intake and lucas tune-up in a bottle nothing seems to work. i don't think its harming the engine so i just gave up. oh yeah i replaced my speed sensor too, for a different problem, maybe i should try the map sensor.
