Anybody?

The shop I brought it to said I cannot just weld in place a new cat, but have to replace the entire section. Napa quoted around $525 and the dealership was around $800. If anyone has any ideas or advice, please help!

find another shop to start with... but 1st I'd yank the o2's and clean them with CRC electronic components cleaner... this works well and it is possible you dont need a cat. fill out your signature in your profile so we know what year truck you have.

Okay.

Also, some more background would probably have helped, sorry about that. Long story short, the motor was driven to the point it overheated, and then driven some more to the point I needed to replace the whole motor. I've been told the cat was either overheated very bad from the motor overheating, or possibly coolant got into it and is causing problems as well from the blown headgaskets. So now here I am, replaced the motor and unable to pass inspection, and looking to replace the cats. I have found some aftermarket stuff online, but I dont know if it applies to my truck or to a Dak QC 5.9. Does anyone know if they're the same and/or if that'll work?
