The colder the air
the harder it is for the engine to idle
because cold air has more oxygen
and the IAC port has to close up more.

If your IAC port is just a little bit cruddy
it won't smoothly restrict the air
and a careful cleaning might stop the problems.

If you examine Dodge factory air inlet systems
you will see that they attempt to pull in cold outside air
when the vehicle is moving
but try to pull in air from the hot engine compartment
when the vehicle is stopped and idling.
This is because when idling hot air allows the engine
to idle with slightly less fuel consumption
because when the IAC is more open
the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP)
is slightly higher
and the pistons going up and down
don't have to overcome as much vacuum.

High vacuum in the intake manifold causes a slight energy efficiency loss,
just like high backpressure in the exhaust causes a slight energy efficiency loss. Both are called 'pumping losses' by engineers.

Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)
was not originally invented to control pollution
it was invented on airplane engines in the 1920s
to slightly improve fuel economy at engine 'cruise'
by putting exhaust gas into the intake manifold to raise the MAP
without giving the engine extra oxygen that would make the engine speed up. This was one of the tricks Charles Lindburgh used when he flew alone across the Atlantic ocean by himself in a single engined plane called the Spirit of St Louis.

I'm telling you it is definatley the crank sensor. The dealer did the same with mine.No codes, they cleaned the throttle body and that didn't work.I went back and forth with the dealer 3 times before I read in a forum about the crank sensor. Finally I just told the dealer to change the crank sensor and the problem was solved.Again It only happens in the cold weather and shows no codes.

i told them about it possibly being the crank sensor. I'll have to bring it back in sometime.

The dealer was also doubtful that it would solve my problem, but they were wrong.I bought one at auto zone for 45.00 but was unable to install it myself and returned it .I don't rememmber what the dealer charged me.I would suggest buying one from the dealer if you plan to install it yourself.

your problem will probabaly gradually get worse.Mine started a little last winter until the weather warmed up then it was fine all summer. As soon as it started to get cold again it started and continued to get worse until I really cound't drive it any longer,

That's the something the dealer thought ,they tried that first.Needless to say it didn't work.
