what size is fuel tank?
heya fellas,
i just filled up my new 04 dakota for the first time today and it only took 14.5 gallons to fill up from having the gas light on. Do i only have a 15 gallon tank? i dont have an owners manual so i was actually assuming it would have a 20/22 gallon tank. i just wanted to ask if some of the dakotas come with a 15g. tank. otherwise my guage is off and thats not good...
thanks, sam.
oh ya. any of you guys around the college station area?

the most i have ever put in my truck was like 18 gallons, and it's supposed to have a 22 gallon tank. When i put in the 18 gallons I had been driving around with the low fuel light on for days and I thought I was going to run out of gas at any time.
my fuel guage is way off, mine will read E at 15 gallons when i fill it up, but i swear when i first got my dakota, when i filled up from empty, always took about 21 gallons when i ran it to empty when i got it 2 years ago, apprently my sending unit has problems
our trucks came with a few different sizes. a 16 and 20 i beleive. mind you i have the 20 and have never put in 18gal. So im not sure how they measured but there are at least 2 sizes.
They might even be 18 and 22 i will try to remember to check tomorrow and let ya know.

its 18 and 22, sending unit is p[art of the fuel pump, which can only be accessed from the top of the tank, either the float has fuel in it and it's bouyancy is off or the sending unit itself has a problem, either too little or too much resistance inside the unit i would say, depends on how chrysler desgned it

you could run it outa gas, not only would you know how much fits, but you may get to see how the float (which you won't find, there isn;t one) and how to change the fuel pump wehn it burns up [8D]
