Anyone got any REAL fuel saver tricks??
use cruise control when u can but not when its wet out but u all know that already im sure, it works for me and don't drive like a crazy person
whoever claims that they are getting over 22-23 mpg w/ these trucks is either not tellins us some secret or they are just plain lying, not trying to start anything, but my truck (02 durango w/ 4.7 V8) gets 19-20 on the highway at 65-70(above the supposed ideal speedof 55-60 hence a little low), and if they claim that they are getting that in the city it is definetly not true unless they have some secret that they are not sharing with us, i drive w/ an extremly light foot most of the time, yes it takes more effort than my norm, but im getting 14.x(closer to 15) mpg in the city, granted that is up and down ALOT of STEEP hills, but over 20 mpg in the city is a joke w/ these trucks, you didnt buy them to save gas, stop complaining, or change your driving habits
I have the 3.9 and I have averged 22-23mpg on highway only(well mines about 5 miles) and this is by calculting. One time I got as good as 25mph(i do not know how and have not been able to sence). When i drive city/highway, 30/70 and i do not get above 60 and get about 17-18mph. This is when i am driving conservitivly. So it is possable to get 22-23mpg(of course i do miss the civic i used to drive when i go to the gas station)
i average about 19 around town and 22/23 on the highway with the cruise on. biggest thing is the take off. go slow and it is fine. go fast and it burns up the fuel. also this time of year we have the winter gas which is really bad. i lose about 50 miles to a tank in the winter because the gas is terrible and when the summer comes and the good gas is here it is better. best was close to 420 to a tank but i average 380 which is not bad
mine and my wifes vehicles both have remote start...gets great milage
my idea is get a better job, or a vehicle you can afford, butI did sell my dak, so I can't say to much..

Actually shrpshtr what i said was that i got 22-23mpg ONCE and that was by caulculating it out on my cell. It was with a lot of highway and an **** light foot. Like stupidly slow acceleration. I try to do a happy medium and average 19mpg. I dont wanna start anything just pointing out what i said and filling in any gaps I left out
first i was not trying to start anything
second
i never said that it was impossible, just highly unlikely, and most people on here post readings from their overhead console which is not very accurate, congratulations on getting that much, i remember my old 3.9 and getting 17-19 around town, but it did not do so well on the highway, i much prefer my V8, and am willing to pay for the gas, but i was just saying that noone is going to get(i dont care who you are) 22-23 in the CITY and when you first posted you did not specify city or highway on that, in my truck like i said i usually average just under 15 year-round almost w/o fail, im happy w/ it its rated for 13 city, 17 highway, i beat both numbers by 2-3 mpg im happy

Don't try this if you are a newby to engines......
but with the coming of cold weather
you might consider removing your fan blades from the clutch fan
and testing the slight MPG improvement you can get this way.
The reduction of horsepower drawn from the engine is slight but real,
but the engine will also warm up faster in cold weather
which also improves MPG.
