Default Highbeam Light Indicator Stuck On

Here's the problem.
I never used to have the indicator to let me know if im on high beam or not. So lookin under the hood yesterday I notice a cable unplugged. So I look at it, clean it off and plug it into a black box on the left side of the truck(right side facing it). So I get into the truck and I notice that the high beam light indicator is on. So I turn on the lights and switch it to low, nothing happens, switch it back to high, nothing happens. Go and unplug the cable and the high beam light indicator goes off, plug it back in again and it goes out. When the cable is plugged in the high beam light indicator is on, but its not as bright as it normally is, so when I switch it to high beam the light gets just a little bit brighter.
Any ideas?

Sounds like a blown fuse or relay. Check all fuses for your lights and see if any are blown. If so, plug the wire back in and see if it works.

I haven't checked just yet. I only noticed this during the daylight. So when I just got home I thought what the hell, lets try it again. As soon as I plug in the cable my high beams come on, and when I go to change from high to low, my highs stay on and my lows come on also. But only with this cable plugged in

geoffb123, did you buy it used? I would think the dealer you
bought it from knew there was a problem in that area.

In other words, I'd raise holy hell about it!

Sounds like a wiring problem in the steering wheel area
or the HIGH/LOW switch is bad; ie, stuck in HIGH.
Also some Dakota's tilt steering wheel system pulls on the
wiring. I just had mine repaired! Another moron engineering
marval.

It's LAW in Ohio that NO dealer can sell a car/truck unless the
BASIC safety items work ie; brake lights, head lights, turn
signals, etc etc.

Good luck...
