4.7 vs 5.9
ok guys, the battle begins! what are the goods and not so goods about each of the two engines. Also which is faster the stock 5.9 R/T Dakota or the stock 4.7 Sport Dakota? My vote goes to the 4.7 only because I own one and I happen to be obsessed with it! I think the 5.9 is a pooch for the size It has, don't get me wrong a very reliable motor but not as good as the 4.7. Have fun
In a dragstrip test done about 2 years ago in MoparNow Magazine the 4.7L sport Dak. beat the R/T 5/5. The RT even had a gearing advantage, and tires and rims too. The trucks had the same cab configuration.
There are more go fast parts for the 5.9L though and you can't deny the fact that you have almost 100 extra cubes to work with.

Until I SEE the article... no way. The ONLY chance that that could happen is the driver of the r/t spun the wheels on the launch do to much MORE torque and NO racing skills, and the 4.7 had a 5 speed manual. Even then, no way. And I would say Dodge did a better job with the 4.7 than they did with the 5.9 when you look at hp/liter ratio, but the famous quote always comes back...
"There's no replacement for dispalcement."
I vote 5.9

yeah, i can see the 4.7 taking the 5.9 because i had a r/t try to out run me on the interstate the other day and at a rolling start (40mph) i took him by about a truck length...I truly believe the 4.7 is a faster engine. when the trucks are the same configuration.
If both trucks are properly tuned and both have a/t with the same gears and tire size, the 5.9 is usually.1-.2 quicker in the 1/4 mile. I don't know about 5 speeds and other mixes. I do know when I hook my 5500 lb. boat behind my 5.9 Durango, it is much quicker than my brother's '01 4.7 Durango with a 5200 lb. trailer hooked up! His suffers badly on steep hills while mine will maintane 60 with the cruise on!

yes i remember that..well dotn actually remember it when it happened but ive seen it....the r/t has 350ft'lbs of torque thats alot for a small truck...the guy had probs hooking up due to that fact..but u can make the r/ts go alot faster since there are more "go-fast" parts out for them a kenne bell blower and i believe ull be running high 12s..or so ive heard...
OK. Got the magazine with me. For those of you non-believers, please PM me a fax # and I've send you a copy. Reading is believing, or you can continue to live in your narrow little world of disbelief.
