V8 w/ Manual Transmission
For those of you who have manual trannys, what is considered a better combination, the 5.2 w/ 5 speed, the 4.7 with 5-speed or the 4.7 with the 6-speed?
The 6-speed tranny seems to have a shorter throw, but with the extra gear, that would be alot of shifting. Is the 6th gear a shorter first or an overdrive 6th?
Thanks for any input.

I'm pretty sure that the 2005- 2007 Dakotas have the option of 4.7 w/6-speed manual. There are also some 2004 and maybe earlier 4.7 w/ 5-speed manual.
I probably should have posted this question in the Third Gen forum, but they won't have the 5.2 option. There was a period of some overlap.
I have to admit, these vehicles are very rare and its increasingly hard to find a v8 option w/ manual trans in decent condition. I'm just trying to figure out what is adesirable configuration.
I think the third gen even had the 6 speed auto, which seems to have become obsolete in favor of the 5 speed auto.

i have a 5.2 5-speed 2wd truck, love it. the aftermarket supports it its fun and (somewhat) cheap to mod compared to a 4.7 i have a hurst short throw and a handfull of mods soon to be supercharged, you couldnt give me an R/T over this truck no way
I have a 99 4x4 V8, 5 sp. A midas tech told me that is a rare combo. My truck originally came from Wisconsin, but now resides in west michigan.

I've got a 4.7l V8 2000 Dakota with the 5 speed, 3.92 rear end with a LSD, 4x2. It's a blast to drive. What makes it even rarer is that it is a regular cab with this combo. It's very quick. Right now it's in storage, as we only drive it during the nice, dry, summer months.
my vote is 5.2 and any trans vs any 4.7 no matter what trans is behind it...... never had a 4.7 myself and really dont want one. passed up some otherwise dang nice trucks, when I have been in the market, to stay with 318/360 vs 4.7 especially when I bought my wife's current Durango 7+ years ago... still have the same one 01 w/a 360
