Default Tru Duals

How hard is it and what am I looking to spend? I've got a 4.7 in a r/c s/b? just wondering because I want more sound! I have a cat back system on it now but im looking to put a Jet perpormance chip in it and want to upgrade the exhuast. Also does anyone have a chip in there truck? what kind of performance does it give you and do you have any problems because of the chip? I've heard that sometimes putting a chip in your truck can lead to other problems down the road. So was it worth the money is what I'm getting at i guess? Sound clips would be great if any has a couple. Thanks for the information fellas

Well actually I went with TRUE DUALS 2.5 all the way back. With shorty headers, gutted cats and 2 flow masters on it, it sounds like a BEAST. Could be the 515 lift cam with the 286 lobe though I didn't seem to lose any low-end that I noticed, but it could have been a negligable amount.

STOP!!!! DO NOT GET THE JET CHIP!!! PLEASE!!! I bought the stage 2 jet chip and GAVE it away to my friend with a durango. Trust me on this one, If your going to play with the computer, check out B&G Chrysler. They are Chrysler Engineers who started their own devision of aftermarket Dodge only parts. You WILL gain 30 horses with one of their comps. Only drawback is it's about 400 bucks and you have to send them YOUR comp out of your truck (meaning you can't drive for a week). You will get it back in one week. You can have the rev limit set to your to your preferance... did I mention they remove the top speed governor? On the Dyno, I gained an extra 45 Rear Wheel Horse Power wich is like 60 fly wheel HP. You won't have these results because mine is a 5.9, but also I had it tuned to the cam, as I sent them my cam spec card. They advanced the crap out of the timing, more vacume, and the amount of fuel sprayed into each cylinder.
Make sure you tell them everything you've done to your truck, or are planning to do. They will adjust it accordingly.

If you don't go with the B&G comp, just don't get the Jet Chip. It's a waste of 250 bucks.

If you DO go with them, you won't be beat by another naturally aspirated 4.7 and you'll rip up the near stock r/t's. Even hang with the moderately modded one's too. Just watch out for those guys with Forced induction!

You can do a Google search for "B&G Chrysler" The name of the Computer work is called the "M1 Flash". I recommend calling the B&G Chrysler guys and talking to them.

well...ur pushinout over 400hp u went too duals not prob didnt loose ne thing...might have even gained a lil if ur engine wasnt getting rid of the exhaust gas efficiently enough...but im talking a stock 5.9 or even the 4.7 and the 4.7 strock only oushes out 235hp so its not having a prob getting rid of exhaust gas

Come to think of it... I put headers on the truck when I had the true duals done. The torque gained from the headers may have offset the power lost from the true dual. Exaust was the first thing that I did to the truck so actually it was a stock 5.9.. I guess the only REAL way to determine would have been to dyno the truck before the true dual, then dyno it after the true dual, but before installing the headers... Like that ever happens. Ya, especially with the cam set up and unreal amount of nitrous being jammed down its throat, and the throat being opened with the M1 manifold, alot of exaust has to move through those pipes. Definitely a different setup than the stock 4.7 which is really what this thread is about [:-]
So Kota, I can't tell you from personal experience that you shouldn't go with the true duals because they are great for me. I can tell you that the sound is MUCH different than when the pipes are crossed. I personally like it, but I don't know how it will sound in the 4.7 without a lopey cam, or should I say cams. They are dual cam right? I'll tell you one thing, gut the cats and your check engine light won't go off unless you buy some O2 sensor foolers. If you don't then your engine tries to adjust the A/F ratio, timing all of which is stripping power... unless you go with the B&G
Anything else?!?!

ORIGINAL: Q8740

There seems to be a myth that going to Tru Duals will cost you HP and TQ..?

This is completly false on the dodge's, we have significant gains on the 4.7's and 5.9's even in stock trim and the Mpg gain is also nice

avg gain on a 4.7 is 16 rwhp and 14lbs tq

We have many dyno sheets on file and customer testamonials

On a stock engine, it usually moves the torque band up several hundred rpm and can cost you in lost throttle response and towing torque at low, street driven rpm. I agree that you will usually gain at peak but the peak will usually be higher.

Q8740, thanks for clarifying... I didn't think I lost anything, but I don't know the physics of it well enough.

Q8740, The difference in my true dual set up, and what is on that website is small but might make a difference. I have the 2.5" pipes from the headers that each go through empty cats, then each go through a 3 chamber flowmaster... they don't ever connect with eachother. 2 pipes, straight back... that's what I refer to when I say "True Dual". Does that sound like it would cause me to lose power?
