Default Resetting PCM w/ superchips

So I have the Superchips "perf" mode uploaded in my truck. I Just boughtthe MSD 6a, Blaster coil, Msd 8.5 wires, tach adapter, V plugs, and Harland Sharp RR 1.7's.

After I install all these toyshow do I reset the PCM when I use the Superchips?

Do I unload the Superchips? Does it matter? I just don't get how I can load a program into the PCM and then also reset it.

Yes you want to "unload", or return the pcm to stock settings before you reset the pcm.

At what point would I "upload" the Superchips performance setting again?

hey milk man, sorry i have no idea about the superchips but i was just wondering... your mods are similar to mine on my 01, in the spring i plan on adding a couple more. first of all i noticed you have a trac-loc rear in your sig, where did you get that or was it stock? I was looking at auburn LSD's and they're pretty expensive. Have you ever taken your truck in the 1/4 mile? last year mine ran a 17 flat but that was before i got a stage one intake manifold. I plan on getting a hughes stage one throttle body and 1.7 rockers in the spring, did you notice a big gain? just wondering. by the way when it comes to the superchips, there is something out now way bettercalled SCT tuning for dodges. It basically allows you to tweak any part in the computer, there is a speed shop 2 blocks from my house that has it, but i havent been over there yet.... thanks

Unload the Superchips program so the pcm is stock, then unhook the battery, then install all your parts. Once everything is installed hook the battery back up, and if it were me I would start the truck and drive it to make sure everything is working correct. Then install your Superchips.

Thanks YellowJ, got it.

Hey Wink,
I just orderedall the MSD and RR's. When I get them installed I'll let you know what I think. i am going to Dyno it before and after. Ihope to see a 40-50 HP gain. I was going to send my "puter" to KRC, but now that you have told me about the SCT DCX stuff I think I'll go local cause' that's what they do now too. I think I'll sell my Superchips to pay for the tuning!

My LSD is just stock. I paid like $295 installed. I have an AUTO and from a start I don't burn out so I thought why spend the money on something that will never really see any stress like that. I just wanted more "push" around corners and better traction in the slick stuff. Also, donuts have never been so fun!

I have no drag strip near my house unless you count the local deserted road...lol So i have never done a timed 1/4.

Next mod: FMS 19# injectors thenI think the SCT tuning.

FYI- This is all the crap i bought to get to the next level. Money well spent... who knows? Thought you might like the part numbers. All of it is from Summit, they threw the hat in for free. What a deal!

yea, i've heard that a better throttle body and 1.7 rr's were good for 30-40 at the wheels, which is what i'm going to spend my money on in the spring. combined with my stage one intake manifold and CAI i should see a pretty good gain. The really big thing that i want to do is get rid of my open differential. That thing drives me insane. even if it's just wet i spin a tire... and forget it if you're in snow. where did you get your trac-loc unit at? The only LSD's ive been able to find for the 2001 8.25's were like auburn and powertrax. Anyway, good luck with installing the new parts and be sure to give us an update.

So if anyone is still listening I've got a story.

Friday I got home and tore into my project. Installed the 1.7 RR's. Easy stuff. It only took 3 hours with another set of hands to help. Just get the instrustions online at http://www.pavementsucks.com/tech/rollerrocker.phpAfter it was done I started it up and everything was great.

It was still early so then I started in on the MSD 6a, Tach Adapt, Blaster Coil, 8.5 wires, etc. I did all the wiring andtried to start it. No go. After I troubleshot it for like 30 minutes, I decided to call Summit in the morning. They ran me through all the same crapI just did and then determined the 6a unit was bad and sent me a new one. I bought the optional Harness so I just bypassed the 6a and it started up right away. I was bummed and just cleaned up and went for a test drive.

Like anytime you reset your PCM it runs a little rough at 1st. I only drove around the block and as I was getting closer to home I got on it in 2nd gear and when it hit 3000 RPM's the engine died. OH SH*T! Irolled onto my street and started to troubleshoot. Basically there was no spark because when I disconnected the harness from the 6a I forgot the Tach adapter was still on it and the leads were now hanging out. SHORTED!

I had to leave it for earlybird service arLehr autoin Sacramento. The next day they told me I fried the neg signalon the PCM andI had to get a new one. $1020 later I have a running truck again. Today I hooked up the new 6a Summit sent me and everything works great!

What I learned was that electrical wires must be insulated at every point. A VERY expensive lesson.

I was going toDyno before and after butI thought it was too expensive. I guess I'm glad I didn't cause' I'm gonna need that money!

I'll let you know what i think about the power as the computer figures things out. I can already tell you it feels much better. BTW - I do not have the Tach Adapter wired up right now and no codes have come up.

i hate it when something like that happens. I learned a very expensive lesson once when i broke off a bolt in my intake and then butchered it trying to get it out. 400$ later I had a hughes stage one intake.
