Default 4 Wheel drive problem

Hello All,
I am new to the forum. I bought a 01 4x4 Dodge Dakata Quad cab 4.7 very nice truck. 130K miles run great. However I go to put it in 4 wheel drive trans in N switch it over and I can hear all the clicking going on and the light saying I am in 4 wheel no problems with the trans. But the front end is not locking in. I go the pull a hill on my land in 4 wheel drive and all it does is spin the rear tires. Help pleasedoes anyone know what or is there a problem with the trans and a switch or what.

Thanks

the motor that engages the trans case is not working right. download the manual and read up on it (link found at the top of the thread). you probably will have to have someone help you change the switch while you look at the motor to see if it's actually moving or not. it should slide onto a shaft or something like that and rotate it to engage. my '00 dak has a shifter... take a look at the diy thread at the top and there is a writeup on swapping a trans case, in it you'll find where the linkage hooks up, your's will have a motor.

Thanks for all the replies, However I have checked all that I know to check. The wires are all hooked up and powered. The 4 wheel drive lights are on. The clicking and changing into gear is going on. Here is what I do! I put it in N I switch it in to 4wheel hi wait for all the switching to do its thing ok, From there I go to 4wheel LO in N all the clicking and switching going on light on and NO front in lock up rear tires just spinning away. so I dont know what the F?????? is going on. So I took it in to the dealer guess what? They said its working great bull???????. So I drove it back home and down to the land and guess what the truck is stuck in the freaking mud just sitting there . I think I will leave it there as a part of the land view because at this point thats all its good for . If you guys know anything else that can help me that would be great. I am not paying a tow truck to get my truck out.
