Default defroster part?

i have a question and i thought maybe i could get some answers here.this morning i gotin the drivers side ofmy 2001 dakota regular cab and i noticed something laying in my floor mat. i pick up what is laying there and it was a black piece of plastic with white grease on it. it was shaped kinda like a "L". so i followed the grease markings that it left falling down. it led me to what looks like is something to do with the defroster and or duct work under the dash. how i can tell were it came from was there was white grease on the part it fell from. it was kinda hard to get my hand all the wayup on the part.i didnt know if this had happened to anybody else or maybe somebody could tell me what i'm dealing with. i had my heater controls on floor only. i could feel air coming out of the defroster and floor during this setting. i didnt know if there was anything i had to worry about or maybe trying to figure out how to get that black plastic piece back to where it belongs. i hope that i explained it enough. all and any help will be appreciated!!
