ok I just got a v8 throttle body from user2006 of his R/T for my 2001 3.9. I called the dealership today to get a v8 throttle cable and the guy told me that the part numbers for the 3.9 and 5.9 for a throttle cable 2001 model year were all the same. The guy was an idiot in the first place because first he tried to tell me a 5.9 was never in a dakota and I was like yea they were from 98-03. The only thing i can think of is maybe they changed the hook up in 2001 or something because the V8 TB definately has a different hookup than the TB on my 01. Should I say I need a throttle cable for a 2000 5.9 and see what shows up?

Actually, save some time and compar the part numbers in the service manual.

 

i ended up ordering one off www.dodgeparts.com it said it was for 98-03 dakota 5.2/5.9, the one for the 3.9 was a different price so i'm assuming this one will be the right one. it just goes to show the incompetence of parts people at a dealership. I could probably find parts for most dodge vehicles off the top of my head better than most of the jackasses on the computer they have working there.

lol that's true. I couldnt believe it when the guy told me there was never a 5.9 in a dakota. and then when i told him that they were in R/T's and some quad cabs he put me on hold for a while, meanwhile my buddy was cracking up next to me the whole time.

i hate the dealerships.. everytime i go down there.. i act like i dont know anything about my truck, and ask them questions.. and OMG do they even own a dodge or even know how a car works? sheesh..

 

I work at a canadian tire at the parts counter, and not to toot my own horn, but when someone wants their parts I always get them and get them right. I have certain clientel that will only deal with me, so I know that I do a good job. Some of my co-workers on the other hand... I feel your pain. But in their defence, you would not belive the amount of people that come in and have no idea what year their vehicle is, or they forget the name of it, but they almost never know the engine size. Kinda sad really. end rant.

 

I had issues getting a throttle cable when i did the V8 TB swap (took about amonth of searching to get one)The dealership said they didnt have any in stock and couldnt special order one (WTF right?). so i ended up buying one on line from ebay i think...ended up getting it from one of the guys who frequents Dodgedakotas.com. I've also heard of guys modifying the old throttle cable with the diffrent end to make it work.
