on each r/t ive seen it looks like there is differnt bend lengths on the ext. cabs or am i just imagining in stuff?
i plan on getting one this summer and just want to make sure the bed is short on the ext. cabs. and reg cabs
im still undecided as to what i should get

No, they are all the same bed length, i believe 6.5 foot. The extended cab beds do look longer just because the truck is longer in general and so is the wheelbase. FYI if you're looking for performance regular cab RT's are faster in the 1/4 by about 3 or 4 tenths just because they weigh less.
i dont know exactly what you are looking for but if your looking 4x4 some people will say 2000(i think) and older are better because they have a manual transfer case where as the new ones 2001(i think, but def, 02) and newer have an electronic switch which powers a motor, which is more convienient but some have had problems with theirs(not me).
keep in mind if you get a quad cab that for a couple a years after 00(01-03 i think) they put the 5.9l v8 in the SLT Quad cabs, or if you want the smaller 8 some have said(again, not me) that the 5.2L is better than the 4.7 which replaced it, if you think that you need 97-99 (they switched in 2000), although i have never had problems with my 4.7, 70,000 trouble free miles just take care of it whatever you get
sorry for the long post just trying to share some info that i have and you need

if you want an r/t the best combination you can get is a regular cab, there are tons of aftermarket parts for the 5.9 for any year 98-03, which are the r/t's production years. look for one with low miles and the 5.9 should have plenty of life left. just make sure to test drive it and listen for things like knocking from the engine and clunking from the rear end. also make sure the transmission shifts smooth... dont be afraid to beat on it during the test drive to make sure it will hold up. they all have 3.92 geras and limited slip out back stock.

then youa re looking at a 98-03(no R/Ti in 97 or 04) i would try to find an 03 if possible, newest model, its got the new interior(which i prefer) and any other problems were mostly worked out by that time, (just as they get it all worked out they go and change the design, go figure huh)
i like the new interior, my dad and step mom have an 03 durango r/t and from what they look like are the same trucks dash forward? i know the hood bumper and cluster stuff is the same im just now sure on the rest, they look identical if your looking strait at them
yea basically they are the same truck, my dad drives an 03 dak, and i drive an 02 durango they are the same truck(hes only got the v6, while i have an 8, but other than that) from the front row of seats forward the only difference on the whole thing is the "top" that they mount on the frame, one is a pick up truck the other is a closed SUV
