Default R/T engine

im looking at getting an r/t and i was just wonder. ive seen alot of parts labeled as r/t. but what does the engine actually have on it from the factory? (heads, cam, intake, pcm) that kinda thing?

would doing roller rockers be a good mod? i know alot about these engines since the one in my ram is built up. but what you think would be the best for some good high rpm power ( as im gunna be dd/drag racing this truck) the truck im looking at currently has an k&N and flowmaster exhaust. i was thinking of trying the 52mm fastman off my ram and seeing how it feels. possibly an M1 intake, long tube headers....

The 360 in a ram is the same as a 360 in an R/T. nothing special. People list parts with "R/T" in them mostly to appeal to you and/or trick you into thinking it's soemthing special.

regular cab dakotas run high 14's stock, club cabs low 15's stock. you can an r/t into the 12's pretty easily. remember a dakota is way lighter than a ram.

"R/T" in a Dakota just means 1" lower, tuned exhaust, 17" wheels, and that's it. And it was the only way to get a 360 in a regular or extended cab.

The Dakota R/T Package:

5.9L/360ci V8 engine - can only get this engine in a RC or CC Dakota if it's an R/T. Some QC's have the engine but not an R/T.
46RE 4-spd automatic transmission
1" lowered suspension - beefier front/rear sway bars, coils, leafs, shocks.
color-matched front & rear bumpers
17x9 R/T wheels (silver 98-01, chrome 02-03)
Dakota R/T decals on door/tailgate (except 2003's)

For the most part, R/T's came loaded - 9.25" rear end with 3.92 gears, power locks/windows/mirrors, cruise control, etc. Some early models were available with 3.55's or w/o power gizmos.

The 5.9L engine was the same as it came in the Ram. In 1998 it was one of the fastest production pickups available. Unfortunately Dodge promptly shoved their heads up their asses and left the platform alone for the entire 1998-2003 run while all the other manufacturers (ie: Ford Lightning, Silverado SS, Chevy SSR, etc.) were upping the stakes. I think Dodge got so wrapped up in their SRT-10 Ram that they completely dropped support for the Dakota - I've heard more bull**** excuses from Dodge execs at SEMA for why there isn't a Hemi Dakota...

Anyways... The 5.9L V8 has a ton of aftermarket mods available. If you want to spend the money, a Dak R/T can go plenty fast - there's a handful of guys running 10's in the quarter mile, and a lot of others in the 11's/12's.

what would it take mods wise to get one at least to the 12s?

All motor: Definitely a strong heads/cam set, 52mm or 55mm throttle body, M1-2bbl, mid or long tube headers, dual exhaust, 4.56 gears, quality PCM flash, drag radials or slicks.

A power adder would get you there quicker - these trucks can handle a 100 shot all day long, 150 shot if you pull a little bit of timing. There's a couple of good supercharger kits available as well.

i was def consitering running nitrous so thats good to here. i got keep this daily driveable though, thats the hole reason im getting one lol. im sick of 7mpg and the howl of swampers. so 4.56's are def out. i was planning on doing tb and sending the pcm to get flashed. i might do the M1 intake, or ill open it up and cut down the runners like i did in my rams.
