97 3.9L Overheated in -35 weather.

Lesson learned that is for sure. I think i am winning the battle right now. I ran the engine up to temp, the hoses going to and from the heater core are warm, there is heat coming through the vents in the cab, and the top rad hose is open and had some warmth to it, telling me (i think?) that the thermostat is opening up. Its just the lower rad hose that is still not flowing wide open, but by taking the engine up to temp along with space heaters in the garage i think it will come soon. Also, there is nothing leaking and the oil is clean, so it appears there is no serious damage.

Sounds like your mixture was set too low. I think you need to add antifreeze and check lots of places measure to -35. They think you plugin once you hit -20.
