Default Oxygen sensors

I have a 2004 Dakota 3.7 104,000 miles. Check engine light came on and dealer said the 2 oxygen sensors need to be changed. They want $300.00 for the job. Does that sound about right? How difficult is it to change? Do they have to be heated to be removed? I value your input.
Thanks

If its two O2 Sensors and a dealers doing the work I am sure its going tobe that expensive. Changing thesensorsnot to big of a deal, all you need is a O2 sensor socket, which you can rent pretty cheap.Allthe socket amounts to is more or less a deep well socket with like 1 or 2 slots in the side to allow the wiring to hang out the side. Now the price of the O2 Sensors range from 30 to 80 a piece depending on aftermarket or oem. Once you got the socket its just unpluggin the sensor and a couple twists and its off. No big deal I dont think!Good Luck

.

On my 02 QC Dakota, there appear to be only 2 sensors....1 before the Cat Converter and 1 after.....

A simple Boxed end wrenchof the correct size should fit over the connector to loosen it up.
You should have plenty of room to swing that.

Replace them yourself and save some $$

the dealerbitches are always looking to rip people off. do the job yourself.

I Have an 04 with a 3.7 also. The 02 sensors should take you about 10-15 mins to change yourself. You shouldnt have to heat them up since its an 04, use a box endwrench like lone_wolfn said and they shouldnt be to bad. Use two wrenches if needed. Also the longer the wrench is the easier it will come out for you.

Check out www.oxygensensors.com

Also make sure you get the ones with the factory connectors on it, not universal ones.

Bosch is ok as long as they are not spark plugs.

I didn't get a chance to change the o2 sensors yet but got under the truck to locate them. I found that there seems to be 4 o2 sensors. 2 on each pipe. How do you get to the ones that are before the cat? Looks difficult to get to.
