Guess the estimate
Well, it has to happen to us all eventually. We were on our way into town yesterday in icy road conditions. There is a hill on Rt 40 that is notorious foraccidents because the middle of the road is crowned with the high usage of large trucks. It has a tendancy to throw you into the guard rail. A vehicle in front of us, and ourselves were going about 25-30 mph, and I see this Jeep Cherokee coming behind us REAL fast. He gets right up on me, and unbelievably he passes both vehicles. When turning back into the right lane, he starts to spin out. He spins three times, and ends up sideways in the road. The guy in front of me tries to stop, and goes sideways and ends up over the crown, and facing up hill. Now I have two options, hit the Jeep broadside on the passenger side, or try to brake. I couldn't try to get over the crown, as the other guy is in the left lane. so I brake and hope for the antilock to work. Well,I spin around, and mydrivers side rear hits the guard rail, bounces off, and throws the front endinto it. I was going maybe 20 mph by then. Everyone laughed when I put the little Westin bull bar on the front, but it saved a lot of damage. At least no one was hurt, and wouldn't you know it, the guy in the Jeep took off, and no one could get hisplate #. I saw owns post where his chains tore up his bed, and thought his estimte was outrageous, but had a heart attack when I saw mine with the very little damage I have. Look at the following pics, and see how close you can cometo the estimate. Estimate includes replacing the bull bar.

I guess I should have explained the damage. REAR, fix& paintrear lower bed side, "about the size of a football". 50 cent size nick out of corner of rear bumper. Paint black or change plastic on bumper? FRONT. Repaint lower bumper, change black vinyl cover on top of bumper. Put new bumper reinforcement on, and mounting brackets on left side so the tire doesn't hit it while turning any more. New parking/turn signallight assembly. New Bull bar.
its rare to have any body damage less than $1000. I'lll guess $2500.
my son's honda got hit last weekend in front end. he had stopped, other guy almost got stopped, but dead centered the nose at about 10mph. $2100 so far, and likely to go higher...

when I rearended a guy 2 years ago in my 99, bent my front bumper down and took out my rad and A/C condesor and rad craddle. it didnt look like much dammage at all. but it cost the insurance $6,500 to fix it. the front ends on these trucks are weak as hell.
but I would just pull out the front bumper so it doesnt hit the tire and drive it till the summer and get it fixed then.

Try $2,991.85, minus my deductible. There are really no parts in the rear end repair, unless I can get the plastic piece that covers the top of the bumper. Pull the bed side, and paint it and the bumper top.The front, the main bumper support, drivers side bumperbrackets, bumper vinyl top cover, turn signal/parking light assembly, paint lower bumper, bull bar. I can get all the parts for $491.12, but would want to pay someone to do the paint work. It still seems like I should be able torepair itfor wayunder $1,500.00.
damn i was going to list stuff o well here goes ill do it anyway
200-250 for the headlight assembly
200 +- for the front bumper
50 for a couple cans of body color spray paint and clear coat
800-1000 min for labor
so maybe 500 for parts, and then idk how many hours it would take to do the work but say 90-100 an hour minimum, multiplied by at least 8-10 hours, pulling dents and painting is not easy or fast, and neither is pulling the bumper, especially if the truck wasnt garaged(idk if you have that luxury) and everything rusted together
i would keep the bull bar and just repaint it, doesnt look like it took that much damage

Its hard to see all the damage from just pics but Painting panels takes a lot more work than most realize. Cheap spray paints just wont cut it in terms of insurance quality repairs. Im sure the paint materials alone is costing about $300. although $3,000 does seem a bit high. Sounds like most of the repair is in the bedside.
