2004 Dakota 4.7 - I am going to buy?? Need advice.
I want to get rid of my 2nd gen RAM. its junk.
But... not sure about the dakotas. its only got 32,000 on it. its a 4.7 Auto 4x4 sport model 4dr.
What should i know about this truck before getting it...?
What tends to fail?
What are the common repairs?
I know my old RAM has nothing but problems with the tranny, plenum, bearings, and catalytic converters.
Can you please help... thank you.

I have an '04 SLT crew cab sport, with the 4.7. It currently has 41k miles on it. No issues so far. I had to put a set of tires, and front brakes on it once, now a fog light needs replaced, wow! Not too bad fora 4 yr old truck.
It's no garage queen. The bed is well used. (The Rhino liner hides all of the sins!)
Gas mileage is about 15.5 - 16.5 MPG. The truck's best gas mileage is in the summer.
Whatever you decide, proper maintence and care is key.
Hope this helps in your decision...

take care of it ull be fine therir isnt a MAJOR problem w. them but if not taken care of it will fall apart, main thing is take care of your transmission...
also if it has the limited slip rearend make sure to change it and add the addative if needed, The truck it am driving went 51000 miles on the same fluid(dam father) and had to have the entire rearend rebuilt so I will change it on the B schedule of 12000 miles.

I have a 2000 4.7 and found sludge built up in the oil fill tube. I think it might be related to the motor not breathing well and mositure is collecting on the inside of the motor. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I'm about to go look into finding a better way to make it breathe... I like my truck alot (2 QC's in the family, the ram & dak) it is comfortable to drive and the mileage is not too bad.
