RE: 5.9L magnum
im not positive either, but trying to fit a V-8 into your truck that had a V-6 sounds like problems galore. the motor mounts and tranny probably wont fit, plus the length of the drive shaft is different. an alternative would be the 3.7 V-6...horsepower rating is only about 35 less than a V-8 and the rated milage is about 3 or 4 mpg's better and everything would probably fit better. you can easily add a few horsepower to make it equal that of a V-8...or, if you must have a V-8, the 4.7 is a good alternative. the power ratings are about the same as the 5.2 or 5.9 and you get better milage. this is what i would do, just something to think about....

But one question, he told me I need the same ECU year for my dakota so I would need an ecu from a 1997 dodge ram is this correct?

RE: 5.9L magnum
I recently bought a 5.9l durango from an impound yard... for about $600 the durango only had 45,000 miles. so i ripped the tranny and engine out and put them in my dakota... look around your local police auctions. out here they use the 5.9l durango park-ranger rigs. Good LUCK.
