How hard would it be to swap a NV3500 from 42re?

get in touch with these guys. i have known them from the 60 s they are honest. 90% of ALL trans shops get parts from a & reds. they will know the answer to any question.

 

wouldnt it make more sense to just use the transmission your truck already has? i have heard of quite a few 5.9 swaps where they keep the 42re, it will hold up. swapping to a manual trans would take a lot of work and fabricating, not to mention cutting a hole in your floorboard. the 8.25 rear is also pretty damn tough, alot of people say it is comparable to the dana44.

 

It was just a thought, and i like standards, more fun to drive. I don't know if I will be doing the swap though, I think I will just sell this truck and buy a way better one. heh Hopefully a fullsize.

 

i was looking at doing the same to mine, sincei have a 4x4 i was most likely looking at the tranny back except the axles, and possibly a computer for the engine that is programmed for the 5 speed. a buddy of mine in my diesel school had a 02 3.9 5 speed dakota, and he said it would hit 85 in 4th with the hammer pinned to the floor, and would bog out on him in 5th, weird
