You will undoubtly use every cuss word you know before you are done, and possibly make up a couple. Treat the wiring with TLC. Read some of the posts of others on here that have done this and have had resulting problems. Uncle Sam will be sending you $600 it looks like. You may want to think about using it to let the dealer or a reputable shop cuss at it for you. If you don't live in the US, Oh Well. Buy a few cases of beer and give it a shot.

Dealer quoted 1 grand for it. That earned the first "not so nice" response. Thanks for your responses. I know this is a bear, but after 11 years and 267k miles, it's hard to see my Dak suffer so.
I'll let it go as long as I can, but the foggy windows are driving me nuts!

I've been debating about taking mine apart. My heater core is fine, but my evaporator leaks, bad, and so I have no a/c. It's not bad this time of year, but I should probably make up my mind soon, while I still have tax return money, and it's gonna get warm in a couple of months.

ha. coincidence im looking at this today as i just got done putting my dash back together. i had antifreeze pissing out of the floor vents so i had to change the heater core. 1000 dollars for a shop to do a heater core is a waaaaay to high estimate. i got prices from 4 different shops for 2 to 300 bucks. but i still went ahead and did it myself. i would highly recommend using directions to take it apart though. and you dont even need any special tools. i busted the screw part off of a small hoseclamp and used the hoseclamp for the a/c line fittings. alls done now after about 20 hours of bull**** and my truck is all better so if you got the time its doable because im a novice at vehicle work but it saves you money and teaches you a few things to get it done yourself
