Default 04 dakota misfire

First detected a P0304 cylinder #4 misfire. Swapped coils on cylinder #4 and 6. Subsequent codes were P0300 (random misfire) and P0304. If the original #4 coil was bad, why did 0300 pull instead of 0306 after the swap??

thanks

My guess is the computer already had the #4 misfire, you switched the coils, then it saw a #6 misfire. In the computer memory it had both the #4 and #6 misfire, to the computer that meant random misfire. I'm not sure I worded that correctly?

If you had erased the first code before you swapped the coil, I'm not sure if you would have only got the #6 misfire instead of the random code? Interesting

Its called coil on plug. i would swap the plugs if i were you. otherwise besides the coils themselves you may be looking at an injector.
