Default 3.7L Dakota headers

Forum:
I have a 2004 Dakota with the 3.7L V6 w/manual trans. My understanding is that this motor is actually shared with Jeep and is the same as the Jeep Liberty. I have wanted to purchase headers for my truck but with no success;and recently discovered that JBA headers now makes a header for the 3.7L Jeep Liberty and wanted to know if anyone has tried or fitted this or any other header onto their 3.7L Dakota. Would really like to get headers and true duals and gain some more performance a esp more gas mileage.
TIA.

Mike

I might be wrong but I've heard that the 3.7 V6 is basicly the 4.7 V8 with a couple of cyliders cut off. Everyone here says the 4.7 factory headers are very good so if they are similar on the 3.7, you might want to spend your money on something else. Just a thought!

i have looked around for headers for other people on here that have V-6's and cant find any. im sure someone makes them, but the fact that your truck is so new, they may not be available. like DakinUK said, and from what i have read, the dakotas exhaust system is pretty good stock and the possible gains are not worth the cost. you can do many other things to help power and milage with the money you would spend on headers and duel exhaust.

I need to look into this and see if it is worth it or not.

Are the Jeep Liberty 3.7L motors the same as our dakota 3.7L? Even if they are, I guess I still need to be concerned with firewall clearance issues? Shed some light folks?

not worth it imo. for the 4.7 the stock manifolds work just fine. not really noticible if you just have a few bolt ons. better to get a programmer or something.

Word. The price tag is rather steep $480'ish for no coating... Just wanted to know all of my options.

Any idea if the Liberty 3.7 is the same as the dakota 3.7L?

Its most likely the same motor but with different mounts and what not. Those headers are most likely set up for that chassis and won't work for a dakota. The suspension is different, the stearing shaft is in a different spot. The trans and way the exhaust is routed is different. All these things go into make headers.

I'm willing to bet there is a 99% chance they won't work. There is a reason they show it working for a Liberty and nothing else.

Aside fromt that, like Thunder said, not worth it. End of story.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but don't get too worried about the headers. If you are concerned about gas milage it makes no sense to go and spend $500 to gain .5 mpg. You will NEVER make that back and then profit. Doesn't make sense...

All of that makes sense. Even though I know that I wouldn't do it, I still wanted all of the information. I'm obsessed like that. Thanks for helping me hash it out. Currently, I want a hard tonneau cover to help with mpg, but the price tags
