o1 dak c.a.i vs drop in
hi everyone over the week end i was going to fab up the home brew c.a.t.but then decided to go with a k/n drop in instead, mainly so i could hold down the under hood temps and dust so i would not have to clean the filter as much.heres the thing,it went from 80 miles on a 1/4/tank witch is abouth 16 mpg to 12 mpg and 60 miles on a 1/4 . It makes me think there is to much air flow and now the compurtor is puting even more fuel to it {any thoughs any one} ([>:])
i wouldn't think that a drop in would do that. i'd give it a week or two to let the pcm relearn. was it the same type of driving conditions and waht not and was this filling up or just looking at the needle becasuee you can't always trust the gauges.
pitkan is right, id take averages over at least a couple tanks of gas and see what happens. seems to me that using a K&N filter will do nothing but good things. id also stick with the drop in filter rather than the CAI. from what i have read, dodges have a good factory system, better than most other makes. if you look at dyno tests, the dodges have less if anything increase while chevys and fords get big gains
Thanks yall, thats looking at the gauge,Im going to leave it for now , weather is up and down in va now going in to early spring, then back to 20s,it may need some time thanks again
i have a K&N off brand and when i put it in my mileage went up by between 1-2 mpg. also it sounds sick a sh*t when you can hear the intake sucking the air in. i have scared the crap out of some ricers with that sucking coming in the front of my truck...
Hello jonnymagnum, you said you had a differant out come with the drop in I was woundering what u noticed, more power, less power/more or less fuel or responce.

I noticed better throttle responseand better gas milage. I had a crap bay CAI and the air hat it came with warped and wouldnt seal right. so I went back to stock and it was much better.
has anyone tried anything from true flow. i like their foam design better then k&n's cotton gauze. jw i think im just gonna get a true flow drop in filter then get an abs elbow and piece of pipe and run that from the tb to the stock air box then maybe run a hose from the thing that goes to the fender either out into the fender or cut a hole and run it down behind my fog light.
