Well i have a 99 dakota with the 5.9 2 door with about 150,000 miles and it wont go over 3000 grand. the first time this happend was prolly in december for like a week.I ran it on a scan tool and itsaid it was misfireing in a few cylinders so i changed the plug wires not the plugs cap or roter cause they were already new. Didnt work.A couple days laterthen all of a sudden it was fine ran fine for like 2 months then it happend again for about a day about a month agothen it was fine now it started doing it to me again yesterday. When its in nuetral or park it will rev all the way up. And just by starting iti can usually tell if its gunna be acting up on me.Need help please!!!!
Sounds like a distributor rotor maybe? Were the symptoms there before you did the original ignition changes? (You said you didn't change the plugs, cap or rotor)
well i changed all that like a year ago. so im pretty sure that aint it. I think i have nerrowed it down to the cat because i pounded on it and there is somehting in there that i think is blocking it so when i get on it it restricts but when i slam on my brakes it moves forword and seems to run normal till i punch it and can hear it move to the back of the catand then it runs like crap. I read on other forums about this happening so i think ima give that a shot it sounds logical and it sounds like it is over restricting my exuast. What do you think???
absolutley. i had it happen to a chevy trailblazer. if you can, take the cat-back off and try to put like a hanger in towards the cat as far as you can and see if you pull anything out. you might get some stuff that looks like a bunch of hair.
i would definately say the cat because you said if you hit your brakes sometimes it breaks free and will rev higher. I would just hack it off and weld a strait pipe in there if you dont have to worry about emissions.
if your gonna replace the cat i suggest a magnaflow or carsound (same thing) hi flow cat. im by no means a tree hugger but just chopping it off isn't a good idea imo and a lot of people get tired of the smell after a while.
just cut the cat right out. waste of money at around 200$ for a new one better off to straightpipe it. they should be free if treehuggers are worried about emissions
i pulled the cat off and all the honey comb stuff was brocked up i jamed it all out and she runs great now but is pretty much like a strait pipe now with a little chamber action hahha thanks guys!!!
