If the tire size matches the size listed on the door, go with the pressure written on the door! Some tires can hold 50-60PSI, but that doesnt mean you want that on your ride.

PSI affects braking distance, traction, the amount of sway you get in cornering, how smooth the ride feels, and MPG. The manufacturer took the time to come up with 36/or 42psi for a reason. Why wouldnt they just slap 35 or 40 as an even number?

Go with the recommendations on the door because you can get 5 dif tires the same size and all will have its own range of acceptable PSI's
The amount of MPG you lose over 4 psi when your up above 30 is very minute compared to the other things you sacrifice. All these tire PSI improving your MPG tests are based on people running 10-15 and not knowing it
