Don't remember how long its been going but when accelerating from a stop there is a loud rattling sound from under the truck. Sometimes from 1st to 2nd also if shifting at lower rpms and if in 2nd and you let the rpms lower then accelerate. Dad thinks it night be a loose exhaust but can't tell. Can't make the noise at idle or in neutral. Any ideas?

 

hey how are you doing? I had my dakota since 2003 and as far asi know my truck has always made that rattle noise off the take off. my truck has makes that noise on slow rpms. shifting from 1 to 2 and to 3 gears. I dont know what to tell you about the noise but as far as i know it dont hurt the truck and if you want you might want to check the gear oil. if you have to put some in it might quiet the noise down some but wont get rid of the noise.

get in touch with these guys. i have known them from the 60 s they are honest. 90% of ALL trans shops get parts from a & reds. they will know the answer to any question.

 

guys its the exaust, i had the same thing, the front bracket broke. the cat was banging against the tranny crossmember


if its not that then take it to a shop.

 

Is there a part number for the bracket or a specific name parts guy was tring to give me a whole bunch of othere things.

 

on mine it was the part on the exaust that broke, can be welded back together
if you want the part, be ready to shell $500 for the entire exaust assembly
