Default Buying from an Auto Wrecker

Okay, here's the case I have about 2 options for engines, both 5.9's.
One has a Damaged Intake, but it has been tested runs ect... I can get a not damaged one for 65 bucks and put it on myself. (Intake)

The deal on the engine is amazing 20,000 km's for $1,400 most of the other ones were 1,500 and with 120,000 km's. (That engine is barely broken in!)

Do you think the damaged intake one is okay? The wrecker offers a 90 days replacement warranty. So if I blows up, il get a new one. Also the engine is complete with most of the accessories Just need a harness and ECU.

Will an ECU work from any vehicle? As long as it's the 5.9 one? Do I need to get the vin programmed or something. Harness I know I can wire in 2 more injectors and it's all good to go. What would I need to do this? Wire wise, ect... And how hard would it be.

Thoughts welcome

Headers , what are the best?

Chris

best way to check an engine condition without tearing apart the engine, pull the spark plugs, look at them, compare em to a chart and send out an engine oil sample to see what kinds of materials are floatin areound ( bearing cap material, etc) otherwise ya thats a good deal, just look for aftermarket intakes and beef up the engine, and about the headers, cant help ya there

I would tear it apart, but I don't want to spend a bunch of time tearing an engine apart, I need to drive my truck lol. But It will be sweet. I don't want to buy a junk engine, thats the thing... If I wish there was a way to verify millage.

Sounds like a good deal on that low of a km motor. You mention that you are going to have to pull the intake and change it anyway, so for the little extra effort, I'd say put it on a rotateable engine stand and yank the heads. Then flip it over and pull the oil pan. You should be able to get the true story there.I know it is coming with the 90 day warranty, but the cost of the upper end gasket kit, and oil pan gasket, and the couple hours it wil take to check it out, has got to be less than having to pull it again if it is bad.

Yea might be true. I will have to look into it a bit more. I am going to get some more info on the engine tomorrow. But it seems like there is something wrong with the engine, not just something simple. But since they offer the warranty Im not sure.

I would yank the heads and the oil pan, then you will geta good look at the motor and see if its in as good of shape as they say it is.and you can put some fresh gaskets in it too.

I agree. Yank the pan and heads. You can check for play in the rods, end play in the crank, condition of the timing chain, metal material in the pan, ridges at the top of the cylinders, etc.
