i just bought a 02 dakota 4.7 with low milage and when its cold it takes a while to start. it turns over great and idles perfect but it just takes a bit to start. when it is warmed up it fires no problem. is this a normal thing in dakotas or what could the issue be?

Does it fire faster if you give it a bit of gas?

Sounds like you might be having some sort of electrical issue. Because if it was fuel it would be probably help giving it gas. It could be a sensor down to a coil. (It is doesn't run rough or cut out abnormally than I would say it's something like the IAC, maybe give it a clean.)

sounds like your fuel pump is bleeding off a little bit after awhile. when its been sitting lets say over night. the fuel pump pumps up till the ecu tells it to turn off and when it does it doesnt have enought pressure untill you go to try to start it and when you try to start it it turn the pump back on and it takes a sec to push the fuel through then your truck starts. the is what is happenin to my gf car. the only way to fix that is to get enother fuel pump. and check it with a fuel pressure gauge. turn the truck on and let it run for a little bit and then turn it off. let it sit for a while with the gauge on and see if that is really your problem

I would try cleaning the throttle body, IAC, and TPS first. I have an 03 4.7 and mine did the same thing..... cleaned up the TB and sensors (whichwere REALLY dirty) and no problems since. Plus a can of TB cleaner only costs a few dollars!
