I came to the same conclusion today about the shadow from the fins. So I snipped the black fins right on out of there- took like 2 mins tops. I'm gonna rock the shiny mesh for now (I have two coats of enamel clear coat to prevent tarnishing), but I may go black in the future with it. Thanks for the input guys. I will also take a file to the little black nubs that are left from the fins.
Let me know what you think of the current setup:

Right now, mine is only being held on by 6 zips. 4 on top and two on bottom. I was doing it late at night and my hand was sore from rubbing on the condenser.
I took a full piece of mesh and cut about 4 inches off of its length. Then I folded it in a shape like this:

Now there was a lip to hold it up top and one on the bottom.
I drilled 4 inconspicuous holes in the top of the openings of the bumper valance. I just used my judgement on the most discrete locations (I chose in the corners next to the vertical slits in the valance). Then I drilled 4 holes on the bottom, but only have used 2 so far because of the reasons mentioned above. I would like to see it better attached at the lower left and right edges where the curve is, but for now it works. It isn't going anywhere. I knew that nothing gets messed with down there so I wasn't as picky as with the grill.
If you need pics let me know and I can snap them with my phone.
