RE: Homemade Mesh (gutter guard) Grill DIY
for those that like to leave their trucks factory (i myself dont like to cut or do any irreplaceable things to a vehicle) here is an optional idea on pitkanen's idea, and what i did.
i had some black plastic rolled gutter guard, it looks like honeycomb, $3 from lowes, and put it behind the stock grill fins the same way as pitkanen did with small black zip ties. it looks great and hides all the stuff that is visible behind the grill such as the radiator and all that, plus if you dont like it over time you can take it off easily and get the factory look back.

I did this, but i did cut the finger hole for the latch. It's really practical too, keeps large bugs and birds, etc. from tearing up your a/c condensor. I also did the part below the grill - i have my aftermarket auto tranny cooler there- and dont want it tore up either. I did not take off the fascia to do it.

This is an awesome mod and write-up. Looks almost identical to the StreetScene inserts that i almost bought for $200. This would be much cheaper!!
The only thing is- I like the way that the SS ones are concaved. I dont know if you guys have seen them, but they are not flat across the grill. They kinda curve out a little bit. Any ideas on how to do this with the gutter guard so it doesn't look like crap?? Awesome (and cheap) mod! Kudos! [sm=smiley20.gif]

i was also thinking of a way to do that but none that seemed easy enough for me to do at school. One way i've read about before was i think someone cut out a piece of wood like a quarter inch smaller then the grill holes then set a piece of gutter guard down and force it out with the wood. Hopefully you can understand what im trying to explain. It seems like it might work because the gutter guard is really flexible but still really stirdy at the same time.
