Default pcv valve

Can anyone tell me for sure if my '04 v8 4.7 has apcv valve on it,and where it would be located? I'm pretty sure it does, and haven't looked yet. My old V6 I don't think had one. I could be wrong. It's not unusual sometimes

Look on top of the valve cover, or close that is where mine was on the v6. Replaced it once trying to get rid of a tick...

On the 4.7 it is located on the oil filler neck, at least that is where it is located on my '03.

It is located on the oil filler tube under the heater hoses. It is a pain in the [sm=smiley35.gif], to get out if the hoses are hot. It twists loose then you pull it out. Hardest part is fighting the hoses. Don't force it, as everything is plastic down there. Pic 1 shows hoses, and pic 2, thevalve is at the end of my finger.

It is an absolute pain to get out, goes in easy though. I removed the clips that hold the hoses still, spread the hoses apart and took a pair of needle-nose to get mine out. The new one went in pretty easy, but be careful like ricbrk said, its all plastic. Good luck

I replace mine every 3rd oil change, as with the sludge problem in the filler neck seems to work it's way into it. They are cheap enough, so why not.

Excuse my ignorance but what is a PCV valve and what does it do? I've got a 4.7 with 68k on it and as far as I know its never had a PCV valve changed. Thanks for any info.

Paul.

Hi Paul.ThePositive Crankcase Ventilation valve, or PCV valve is a one-way valve that evacuates thegases from inside the crankcase. Im not really sure what the manufacturer suggests on replacement, but I replace mine every 10k miles or so. Like someone said before- they are cheap and easy to do.
