Few questions about my Dad's Dakota
1998 2wd single cab 3.9L
- The interior overhead light does not come on
- The speedometer doesn't work (can't find my original thread when I asked, no time to search right now, lol)
- What kind of tune-up would give a 3.9L the best mpg? I don't care about hp, I've got the v8 for that, but I would like his 3.9L DAK to push 17mpg. Possible?

The 17 is possible though. Not sure about the light, I would guess a ground wire for the speedo...
Tune:
Seafoam Depending on Millage(Intake and Gas)
Wires
Plugs
Cap
Rotor
Clean some sensors new PVC.
check your rear wheel speed sensor, that usually causes the speedo to quit working. just get a brass cap and rotor and good wires, new plugs, seafoam it, new air filter, oil change and filter. the best way to get good mileage is to never go past half throttle unless you have to. My 3.9 can get up into the 20's.
I noticed today how similiar the layout is for the 3.9L my 5.9L. Are some of those parts interchangeable? Looked to me like the accesory bracket, alternator, idler pulley could.

Seafoam is good stuff, I ran that in my Ram when I first got it. Blew out a big ol smoke cloud, lol.

umm the speed sensor is the only electrical wire going to the top of the rear differential, you can miss it just put the truck on jack stands and slide under it and you should be able to see it
Does it replace like an o2 sensor? or is it held in by screws?

its held onto the rear differential by a bolt, and its not like an 02 sensor its a magnet that reads how many times the dear goes around to calculate the mph from rear axel RPMs
