Default buying a 2000

I'm going up on this sun to look at a 2000 2WD with the 3.6L. Is there any problems anybodys found that I should watch for. I'm very mechanical so I know what stuff is. Is there anything I should ask him specifically about the truck?

It's a 3.9. Check the ball joints on the suspension, make sure it shifts good, ect... All the usual to any vehicle buying. I will say this though, if you want a nice truck get a v8, they get about the same millage, except the 5.9L, the 5.2 is very close and about double in power...

I own the 5.2 in a 94 but my dads looking a buying a truck now and he doesn't need anything like a v8's power. So your saying check the ball joints and the other steering parts then. its an automatic. So theres nothing specific on these trucks to look out for.

I have a 2000 4x4 with the 3.9L since new,I have had not 1 major problem.I only had to replace the air conditionor compressor and alternator & speed sensor, other than that I have the original battery and replaced the usual wear and tear items(brakes, tires, belts, hoses, fluids)& i have 213,000 on it!

even if you don't need the power of the v8 i would still get it. Especially since its close in gas mileage. i have an 01 3.9 and it sucks. It has no power. i wish i had a v8 in it.
