Default Overhead computer

My truck did not come with an overhead computer. How hard is it to install one? Is it one of those things where dodge installed the wiring at the assembly line but then did not install the computer as an option?

It's not that hard. You'll need to make a wiring harness and tap into a couple of wires under the dash. You'll need to get the right year OHC for your truck. I put one in my truck in about an hour.

Where did you find yours? Ebay? I see them only as complete overhead consoles on ebay.

Do you have to get the right year? I have a '97, shouldn't I be able to get one from either a 98 or a 99 as well? Those are the comparable models and I was told by a dealership mechanic that they're pretty much interchangeable. Would this not work?

Hi, Did you get sorted with your computer? I want one in mine and want to know which wires to connect into? Cheers, Tim. (UK).

I got mine from a guy off Ebay, http://stores.ebay.co.uk/CRus-Chesterfield. He reconditioned them and supplied a wireing loom as if you car doesn't have one as standard, it won't have the necessary wiring. Mine had some pretty aukward wires to get to (behind dash) but was worth it in the end.

I installed a scangauge in the place where the overhead computer went. Not to mager of a job, just need to extend the cable that it comes with. It will also display more than the standard overhead computer.

As long as you get one from a '00 or older Dak it will work. The OHC goes on the vehicle's communications bus. Your dak has what is called a CCD bus. This changed in '01 to a different kind of bus and at that point they don't interchange. This also goes for any module on the vehicle.
