Shocks
I have 88,000 on my 2002, hearing some noise in my front...had it checked out and everything seems tight. Was suggested that it may be the shocks.
How long should the stock shocks last???
Thanks

It could be your shocks but it could also be your ball joints.
Have you noticed an irregular ammount of bouncing after traveling over a bump? More body roll than original?
At 88,000 miles, shocks can wear out but I've seen some last longer. I mentioned in another thread that I replaced mine at around 112,000 miles only to find out that my diff was going out and was causing the rear end to sway. My shocks might have been fine still at 112,000 miles.

Had the ball joints checked..they said they were fine.
On this forum they all talked about Bilstein shocks...but, there pretty expensive at about 120/piece (list Price)
I don't think I want to sink that kind of money into a truck i might not keep past next year.
any suggestions

I paid about $65 each in California (where everything is more expensive). I think that might have been $120 per pair...? Perhaps???
I had asked this question a while back. Had a few responses say the Monroe Reflex would be a good replacement, but they are mainly for street. Seemed like they were also in the $40-$50 dollar range.
i just put the reflex in mine(my dads truck also has them) 56.xx a piece for the 4x4 front shocks mine went at 72k i knew mine were gone because my bump stops were destroyed, according to the shock manufacturers 12000 miles is the life of a shock, i replace them when i feel the ride is getting too bad or i get too much body roll

Monroe says you should change your shocks every 50,000 miles, and I think even that is way too soon. My '97 Cadillac had the original shocks when I sold it at 160,000 miles. My current '01 Cadillac still has the original shocks at 69,000 miles. Our '03 Grand Caravan had the original shocks when we sold it at 75,000 miles. My '97 Dakota had all four original shocks when I bought it, at 168,000 miles. Now granted, one of the fronts was blown (but the other was fine). So for that reason, I just replaced the front pair. The rears are still fine.
try giving it a lube job. mine was kind of squeaky up front and had it lubed and that did the trick. i know i need shocks tho, i can feel it on the highway when i go over a high spot at speed. it floats and bounces just a little. the shocks look pretty old, dont know if they are the originals, but i am thinking i need new ones one day soon...
