Default Engine Swap

Whatothermotorswill easily fit into the 2001 QC? I have the 4.7L in there now but am seriously considering something else. I don't do metal work so any crazy motor mount fabrication would have to be purchased... What about wiring? Transimission fitting? Etcetera.

You will need motor mounts either way, it's I think only the hemi's and 4.7 were bolted to those trannies... so your choice, 5.7 and 6.1 hemi. SRT 10 engine would be cool too but I think they use another tranny too.

Can I ask why you are considering something else? Is your current motor going out, or do you want a bigger, more powerful motor?

I would like to get more power. But instead of spending 2 or 3 grand on upgrades, why not pick up a new motor for just a bit more?

You can usally get a 5.7 hemi for around 1,500 bucks. So if you do the swap work, you could do it pretty cheaply. Hemi will be a pain though, you have to wire every wire individually...

ive never understood why people want to go to all that work, but to each his own i guess...

you can spend half the money and have half the headaches if you get your 4.7 rebuilt (if it really needs it)with a few mods. or at least put maybe a grand into performance upgrades on your existing motor and half quite a kick *** engine. that is what id do, but thats just me.

if you plan on spending up to 3 grand or moreon just the engine you know there are extra costs that are never planned, and then at that point you could have just bought a new truck and been done with it.

i still dont know why anyone in their right mind would spend $3,000 on just a hypo motoron a dakota that is close to 10 years old. if a person did that, then they would have problems with other running gear that is old and wouldnt be able to handle the new power of a non stock engine and end up spending even more on re-doing those parts. by the time a person was done, they could have bought a new truck.if a person is going to spend that much, why not do a budget rebuild on the whole drivetrain with maybe a few performance parts? that way a person is getting a better than new truck for a fraction of a new truck price.

dennis is talking about swapping to another motor which will require a new tranny and rearend, and possibly new and beefed up suspension too...that is a ridiculous idea. the cost isnt worth it. now, if money is no object, then go for it i guess, but otherwisei still think its a total waste of hard earned money. like i said, with $3,000 a person can re-do a truck to better than new and have a great truck for many years...just my opinion
