Default Tow equipment questions?!

Ok so Im picking up my project car on thurs. Its geting a free tow the 90 or so miles to my parents house so i can work on it. Now to get it inspected ill need to tow it again 45mi to my mechanic.

I have never towed and dont know a damn thing about what i need as far as hitches and what not. What class hitch do i need to to up to 4000 - 5000lbs? And is there anything else i need to tow safely?

Here is an example of the hitch you need.

You will need the correct wiring contector for the trailer or wheel dauly(sp????????????????)

How much does the BMW weigh? I think the towing capacity of the truck is just under 5K lbs and you do not want to stress it to much, and don't forget about what you are using to pull it.

Do you have the stock rims with rubber, if you do i would use them.

Towing is not hard and my truck did fine with about 4k LBs but it is on the stock tires and it is only 2wd but i do have the 3.9L. Make sure all tires are good, check all fluides, and make sure everything is secured properly. Do not get in a hurry towing and you should be fine.

ALLSO MAKE sure your Brakes are in Good shape, if any are worn below 25% left i would replace them(of course when i tow it is usally with 8 horses up to the mountians for a summer camp that is about 250 miles away, so I am usally overly carefull to make sure the rig is in good shap for the trip).

The BMW weights about 3000lbs but is all wheel drive so i wont be using a dolly it would be a full car trailer. Do i need a brake assist? The other thought i had was to rent a uhual and tow with that. But i have not had good luck with uhuals so id rather use my dak. That and thats one of the reasons i bought it and still have it

well the brake control is for the trailer brakes, and you may or may not need one. It all depends on the trailer i think if you rent a uhual tow trailer i think it has some type of adapter that will make it work with out one. But if you are say getting one from a friend then mostlikly yes you do. I would ask who you get the trailer from if it needs one.

A tow trail from my expereance is about 1200lbs so you should be good. Like i said just make sure to duoble check everything. And Yes get a class III/IV hitch not a class III. Allso make sure you get the right wiring adapter for the trailer.

Also just remimber it will take more time to stop and accelerate, also with that weight and tire size(type) i would not go over 65 to 70mph to be safe.
