front differential question

oh yeah and they have been holding up to bad *** burnouts in 4-low at carlisle every year.

Sorry for coming in late to this, but what is the point of removing the front propeller shaft? I'd be surprised if the fuel economy savings are measurable. The only change to the truck is the weight reduction from the propeller shaft itself. You still have the same loss from friction you had before, since the front drivetrain is still intact, and turning, as you drive down the road. I guess I'm just not sure what you save by removing the propeller shaft. Weight would be my only guess.
