Default Removing the head

My father in law is working on an 01 dekota 4.7L engine. He wants to know if you can remove one head without removing the front timing cover? And ifso how can you work around the timing chain??Thanks!!

you'll have to remove the chains... there is a DIY writeup on it that I saw once upon a time, I think I found it while searching for the HO heads for that motor. let me see if I can find it

Yeah, you can't remove the heads without pulling the front timing cover. There really isn't much to getting everything off, although the cam bolts will be a pain to remove without an impact and I use a special tool to hold the timing chains in place to keep from having to retime the whole thing. What did you use to keep things in place so you didnt have to retime? That will save me time and a big headache. Feel free to PM me
