Hello,
I just joined the forum; I have a2004 V8 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab, 28,000 miles. I change the oil/filter regularly. I just changed the oil about 3 weeks ago…. about 6 days ago I noticed a clicking sound after start up and for about 20 seconds to 2 minutes then it goes away. Can someone tell me what the deal is, I have the feeling I should rush to a mechanic or am I tripping?

If it is a 4.7 search for exhaust manifold studs and you will find a wealth of info. 4.7's have a common issue of studs breaking, giving you the symptoms that you describe.

sounds like it may be taking the oil awhile to get pumped to the top of the engine, are you using an oil that is too thick? how many miles are on your truck?

i would agree with 440shadow...might be a clogged pickup, but withonly 28k miles that would be pretty strange...id say the oil is taking some time to get up to the top of the motor. might be a bad oil pump.
The Total Package
but with only 28,000 miles...mine has 181k and it ticks for about a min and then goes away...but i just figured thats just normal for that high of millage

yah mine does the same thing. just dissapates after about a min. my oil pressure is good tho and it never gets worse. seems to be consistant with alot of people on the forum. ive seen other posts about it too. think'n its just alittle dakota thing probably nothing to worry about. unless u really want to start replaceing stuff ie oil pump ect.
mine does it too, and according to my mom(who drove it for 5 years b4 i got it) it has done it as long as she remembers so it must be a normal thing
