blower not working,no heat or air coming out
Yesterday when I turned on my air conditioning in my 2001 Dakota(after a playing hot golf),it worked for awhile then it died,no air or heat blowing out, anyone got any clues as what might be the problem? Also note that I just had my water pump replaced and a new belt put on as well(the old one was just about ready to break-as I am about to now lol). Any help would be kindly appreciated if anyone has gone through this before.
The blower motor resistor packs are known to fail. When the resistor packbreaks it will usually only work on high fan speed. I have heard of losing all 4 speeds at once though. It is a cheap part, about $15.00 from the dealer and in the 01 it just drops out of the bottom of the HVAC housing, from under the passenger side of thedash, below and behind the glove box. There are 2 8mm bolts holding it in place and it just unplugs from the wires. It could be the fan switch, but I would say trya new resistor packfirst. It isnot very likelythe water pump repairand belt have anything to do with it.
I had the same problem a few years ago with my 2000 Dakota. No air was coming out because the A/C evaporator was iced up. It hapeened 2X for no apparent reason, and hasn't happened since. The freon pressure was checked and was OK.
Not to bash Napa, I buy a lot of parts there. But be careful of the Napa resistor packs. I read that Dodge has redesigned the resistor pack with much better parts so it will last a lot longer and the fan works betterbut the ones being sold at Napa are old stock and old design. Dealer price is about the same too.
