Default 2001 Dakota horn chirp

I bought my truck used and the horn chirp (when locking with the keyfob) has never worked. I've tried enabling it by following the instructions in the owner's manual, and I also read that the manual has a misprint, so I followed some alternate instructions I found online. The instructions I found online got me a confirmation tone, but no change with the horn chirp. Is there some other way of disabling the chirp that the previous owner may have done? I get kinda tired of staring at my lights on sunny days trying to figure out whether my truck is locking or not.

ive got an 01 that doesnt chirp either, it never has. Id like it to, simply for the fact that its kinda nice to know that the transmitter that Dodge only made to work with a freakin 15 foot range works and that my truck is locked. Ecspecially since when you run with your lights on the lights dont flash when you press the lock button on the FOB due to the fact that they have a timer that shuts the lights off even when the headlamp selector is set to off. I read through the book and didnt see anything mentioning enabling and disabling a FOB churp. If there is a way I also would like to know.

you can give this a try, which seems to work for some people:

1. turn the key to the "on" position (but don't start the truck)
2. hold the "lock" button on the fob for 4 - 10 seconds
3. while holding the "lock" button, press the "panic" button and then release both buttons at the same time

you should then hear a confirmation tone
It took me about 3 times to get it right, so you might have to try a few times.
Like I said, I got the confirmation tone, but the horn still doesn't chirp, so who knows.

I'm not sure, but I think the horn chirp is something that came alittle later on in the life of Dakotas. I want to say that the only ones that will have a horn chip are the ones that use a immobilizer and a grey headed key, but if I am wrong let me know. I want mine to do it too

it would appear that me and dave are stuck in the same boat together. I followed the instructions givin in the book,i get the confirmation beep...and nothing... i even try to reset the FOB to no prevail. I just checked the wiring on the horns, to see if maybe one of the tones was disconnected since i had put in a Fire engine air horn off a 65 mack pumper, made sure i put everything back in right. any ideas?

The only other thing you could try would be to take it to a dealer. I know with a DRB you can turn the horn chirp on and off
