Clutch fan removed
Well i did a lot of reading 12 pages worth of posts to be exact on another forum about removing the clutch fan and figured i'd try it out. So far so good came right off with two big pliers. Seems to have a little more pep to it and i took it for a good drive and it ran exactly where it used too temp wise. Very simple mod that supposedly is good for 5-10hp. Took me all but a minute too do and i left it in the back seat just incase it gets hot and i need to put it back on. You need the wrenchs or pliers to get it off but it just spins right back on incase i would be out somewhere and it would start getting really hot. For anyone thinking about doing it id say go for it.
I removed my clutch fan about a 1.5 months ago and installed electric. There is no way the Durango would stay cool without an aftermarket fan to help keep it cool. This is on my wifes 2000 5.9 2wd durango. I made a post about it with pictures in the durango section.

very intersted in doing this, but i have a question. You said you did not add another electric fan? what are do you live in, and what kind of heat are you driving in
Some of the Dakotas came with a Stock Electric Fan,
i Removed my Clutch fan and installed a 180 thermostat.. and the truck never gets hotter then it use to with the Clutch fan.. the stock electric fan works fine. Some people upgrade to a Viper fan, that has switches built in for hi and low, the stock fan will only kick on hi when its reaches 210+ or with the A/C on. Otherwise it stays on low atleast mine does.
driving in texas stop and go traffic in 100+ weather doesn't even matter. The 180 thermostat takes care of that.
also cleans up your engine bay and looks better.
EDIT: My truck never gets above the 210 mark.. ever..

would i have to put in a 180 thermostat or would i be ok with the stock thermostat in? Right now im living in ohio and do not see stop and go traffic practically ever.
i'm in lancaster pa so it gets kinda hot around here...like i said i'm keeping it in the truck at least untill the winter incase it ever does get to hot for my liking that way i can just spin it back on and everything is good.
