poor fuel mileage fix
You could start looking at a v6 or a hybrid. They really dont get much better. You could try a chip or cold air intake. Maybe smaller tires if you have oversized on it. But yeah thats the v8.

I did not see the 4x4 so that sounds about right. This is what i got to help with the cost of gas, plus it is fun.

I am paying less for the bike and gas then i have been paying for gas in the truck alone a month, so it may not save me much know it is not coasting me any more.

I have done a tune up and have maintained it. I think the mileage has been better but didn't pay much attention until now when the price of gas is so high. I have heard of guys doing alot better on mileage with pretty much the same truck. I guess I might as well bought a full size truck because I know guys that are doing better than 13.

autolite 3923's, wrap your fuel rails to prevent heat soak (using heat insulating tape from Thermo-tec or equiv)... 2 good places to start another might be a K&N drop in filter. I was getting 18 with a '00 QC 4x4 AT with the plugs, rails & a CAI. had to drive real conservative to get it but I did it...
Sasser, it's not all about what you have under the hood. Location and how you drive is a major factor as to what kind of mpg you get.
Also, most people on this forum have some sort of exhaust or CAI installed; so that could be something for you to look at (if you want to go cheap, make an intake out of PVC as I did in my sig.)
Spark plug swap, headers, good tire pressure, rotated and balanced tires, or an engine cleaner (fuel injector cleaner) should also increase gas mileage.
There are numerous ways to slightly improve the mileage.

I will have to say that the cheapest way that works for me is what MARCHANT said, the fuel injector cleaner that you dump in the tank, that makes a big differance for $3.00.The drop in k&n also.and of coarse,to let up off the throttle.I have been trying to watch my tach and keep it at 2000 rpm along with the tire preasure and rotation,i deffinately have seen a differance in fuel consumption.
