hooking up my CB? New CB?
Well i have an old CB i put in my 99 dakota, and i'm having trouble with it! I get tons of feed back, and when i key the mic i just get a high pitched whine. I think i might need a new CB, but not sure.

SWR= Standing wave ratio. It is the ratio of radiated RF (radio frequency) out of the antenna compared to the amounmt of RF comming back to the radio. Ideally should be 1.5:.1 is generally accepted to be sufficient. With a high SWR (more than 2:1) you run a good chance of burning out the final amplifier. In CB, you are only working wiuth 7 watts out, so it's no big deal. One of my hobbies is amateuer radio. I've got a Yaesu FT2100 in my '98. Wired direct to battery, fused at battery on both lines (= and -) with another fuse on the + at the radio and putting out 55 watts on high power. SWR has to be right for that. ould destroy radio in 10 mim.
Find someone with a swr bridge (meter). connect swr bridge to radio, and antenna to swr bridge. check by keying mic. If high, trim antenna length.

My CB days are long gone. I do Amateur radio- HF (high frequency) with a Kenwood TS930SAT and the above mentioned Yaesu for 2Meter FM. To do this stuff you need FCC licensing.
