Default 01 4.7 quad cab need help, started with valve prob. now maybe sensors

Last year the family and I were coming home from fishing when something broke under the hood. I have Back problems and have had spine surgery, so I'm slow under the hood. I remove valve cover to find #2 intake rocker laying off to the side of vale and lash adj. Broken spring? bent valve? can't tell. After we moved to new house and felt I could go farther, I removed head, and found the damage. The valve seat was sticking through the intake valve, not allowing it to close, and a nice ding on top of piston. Good thing I was driving it and not my wife who wanted me to "try starting it". I fixed the head and put everything back together and now it won't stay runnig, like it is missing bad. Rechecked timing chain, V8 at 12 o'clock on cam while crank is top dead. Sensers? Injecters? Check light came on, but no scanner to get codes. Any Ideas where to start, or do I have to buy another tool for a truck I would rather trade for second car. Already have Suburban, and chevy costum 20. Thanks for any ideas.

you can do the 3 turn key trick. It's in the CE light codes at the top I believe. I would guess either needs a tune up, bad gas or crank or cam sensor. Iv had some problems with the crank sensor.

I was loaned a scanner from my bro and began getting codes for #7 and#5 coil, cam. sensor, crank sensor, and VSS. I reset and tested over and over, unplugging and plugging back in the sensors per code received. I now have the same code everytime P0500, The VSS. I can't find in my manual what to do about it. Wiring chart shows ABS, VSS out to VSS in at PCM. I'm stuck. Thanx for your imput so far, I know I'm close to the fix. Please help me get this truck running right, I'm getting pissed off, but remaining calm. THANK YOU.
